NOTE:
The Elkhart County Surveyor's Office strives for accuracy in the compiling of section corner information.  However, if a corner is found erroneous or in question, please contact the Surveyor's Office so that we may rectify the situation and update our corner data.

NOTE:

The Elkhart County Surveyor's Office has extended its efforts to maintain vital survey points by referencing some 1/16th corners. If the 1/16th corners are going to be lost in a grind and paving project, the surveyor's office has made an effort to provide witness ties, and in some cases replacing the corners with Harrison Monuments. These ties are available on the web site by using the normal click and view method.

NOTE:

Starting in April 2007, the Elkhart County Surveyor's Office is extending its effort to provide the most through information on section corner ties. We have additionally added bearings to the witness ties. Not all ties have bearings, but as the corners are re-witnessed, the bearings were taken. These are from a compass, and not a total station, therefore they are only to the nearest 5 degrees.  Also notice that the drawings will reflect the bearings.

NOTE:

The section corner information will not display correctly unless you entered the website under the enter without frames option. Please go back to do so, if you did not. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Note: Do to the 2007 grind and paving project, some of  the corners will be temporarily removed. We removed these corners in order to find points or stones below the road surface.  These corners are currently being monumented with straddle nails.  After paving, these corners will be monumented with a MAG nail and straddle nails, until they are replaced with a Harrison Monument.  Please hold the larger central MAG nail as the correct survey point until the point has been replaced with a Harrison Monument. All points have been referenced previously to the beginning of the paving project, and all corners will be replaced with Elkhart County Surveyor's Office oversight. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and if you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Elkhart County Surveyor's Office.

PRINTING
Each Section Corner data sheet is designed to be printed on an 8½"x14" Legal-sized piece of paper; it is possible to print onto an 8½"x11" Letter-sized piece of paper, but the print, although legible, will appear light due to scaling.

If printed section corner page appears entirely black
Before you print, verify in the print options that the option "Force all geometry to black" box is checked.  Otherwise, the page will print with a black background and white geometry.  PLEASE VISIT OUR TROUBLESHOOTING PAGE FOR INSTRUCTIONS

Regarding our system of naming Section Corners/Downloading Corner Files
Each Section Corner is named relative to the smallest-numbered section of which it is a part.  Therefore, in the example to the left, only the West Quarter corner, the Southwest corner, and the South Quarter corner of Section 16 utilize Section 16 in their respective names.  The other five corners are named using the numbers of sections smaller than 16, of which they are also a part (for example, the Northeast corner of Section 16 is, for all intents and purposes, known as the Southwest corner of Section 8).

Autodesk DWF Viewer is designed for users running Internet Explorer 5.01 or greater.  If you are not using Internet Explorer, or have an outdated version, and you have trouble accessing the data sheets, right-click on the link to the Section Corner you wish to access, select "Save Target As...," save it to your hard drive, then open it locally.  The default filename for each section corner will be the three-number township designation (a list of which can be found here), followed by the letters "sec" and the two-digit section number, and finally the one or two-letter Cardinal direction from within the township where the corner resides followed by the extension ".dwf." Therefore, the Southwest corner of Section 7 in Elkhart township would be named "366sec07sw.dwf."

Double Corners
Along township lines, sometimes double corners occur; this is when, on account of township fallings, two townships do not share the same corner, and each have its own in close proximity to one another.  Therefore, in each instance of a double corner, both township corners are placed on both township maps.  If you point to any point on the map without clicking it, a ScreenTip box will appear and display the township and corner to which the link corresponds.  If accessing an area with double corners, simply hover over the point with the mouse and wait for the ScreenTip to appear, which will display to which of the two section corners that particular link points.

The yellow box is what is known as a “ScreenTip Box.” For an example of a ScreenTip box, direct the cursor over one of the two example pictures here and hold it over the picture for a moment, and a ScreenTip box will appear.  Wherever your cursor changes into a hand like the one pictured, there is a Section Corner at that location. If you leave the cursor over the point without clicking for a moment, the ScreenTip Box will appear and display which point you are about to click. This is particularly helpful with double corners, as pictured. Moving the mouse only slightly on township boundaries may reveal a second corner from another township, if such a point exists.
